Pat Metheny may be called one of the most important style-forming guitarists of modern jazz. In the mid-70s he started his career in Gary Burton’s band, but soon started to write his own compositions as a bandleader. Although at home in a wide variety of styles, his very personal signature is always clearly recognizable. His music is distinctly melodic and colorful. He has already won over 20 Grammy Awards, seven of them with the “Pat Metheny Group”, his working band. Most of the multi-layered pieces that Bob Curnow has arranged especially for big band also come from this repertoire.
