SJO plays Dave Holland – Livestream (EN)

The English bassist and composer Dave Holland (*1946), who lives in New York, achieved international fame through his collaboration with musicians such as Chick Corea, Anthony Braxton, Joe Henderson and Kenny Wheeler. Of particular importance is his involvement in Miles Davis’ albums from 1968/69 (including “Bitches Brew”). Davis had heard the house bassist at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London and immediately invited him to America. Holland’s work as a leader includes some 30 albums with a wide variety of lineups. Among them are two albums with his own big band, with which he partially revisits repertoire from the small bands. As a composer, he is known for his use of metrically odd riffs, folksong-like motifs and polyphonic themes.
