Latin American music has given jazz new style-forming impulses. Its energy and expressiveness, the moods and the high value of rhythm were and are a fun challenge for many jazz musicians, starting with Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Getz. The SJO’s “Latin” program includes compositions by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Paquito D’Rivera and Joao Bosco, among others. In recent years, literature from neighboring corners of world music (Spain, Africa) has increasingly found its way into this repertoire.
